‘From Pets to Portugal’
Saturday 4th May – Saturday 29th June 2024
Derrick Spence returns to Bassetlaw Museum with a retrospective exhibition of oil paintings titled ‘From Pets to Portugal’. This series of artworks, produced over a time span of six decades, covers a wide range of subjects with a special focus on animals and landscapes. Derrick is fascinated by big cats, especially tigers, but smaller animals, sometimes in the form of commissions or gifts, are another source of subjects. Other favourite themes include scenic landscapes of the Algarve and Portugal, along with the beautiful East Coast of Britain.
An exhibition of paintings by Sutton Art Group

Established 25 years ago Sutton Art Group is still going strong today with over 20 members meeting every Friday morning in Sutton-cum-Lound village hall, where they enjoy creating art in a fun, supportive and social setting.
The group holds occasional workshops and demonstrations for the members with an aim to improve their skills and understanding of different techniques and mediums. The artists are proud to showcase a selection of paintings at Bassetlaw Museum, hoping that visitors will enjoy their art and creativity.

Art exhibition by Ian Davenport

‘A Sense of Place’ is the first major solo exhibition by Tickhill based artist Ian Davenport. It represents work completed over the last 18 months whilst studying for a Degree in Fine Art. As a contemporary landscape artist, inspired by the open spaces and big skies of Northern England, this body of work describes an emotional connection to place through a bold use of colour, texture and gestural marks.
Art Exhibition by the ‘Bridgegate Artists’

Bassetlaw Museum welcomes an eclectic exhibition by the ‘Bridgegate Artists’. These creators, including Alison Beevers, William Boulby, Andy Hill, Tracey Page, Bev Ramsbotham, Cath Ray and Bryn Walls all share space at Cath Ray Studios on Bridgegate in Retford. Their interests overlap from painting to printmaking, photography and textiles, as do their backgrounds that span ceramics, typography, horticulture and education. These influences all feed into the artists’ practice, resulting in a range of work that mixes the contemporary and the traditional providing something for all tastes.
